There was a bit of a buzz around Wilmington leading up to last night’s episode of Jeopardy! College Championship. Why? Because one of our own was standing at that legendary lectern across from Alex Trebek.
Needless to say, Mohan Malhotra, an 18-year-old Wilmington native studying at New York University (NYU) had a lot of support from the First State — and Wilmington’s tech community. Malhotra is a former Zip Code Wilmington intern.

Malhotra competed in the College Championship in Los Angeles in January and watched his appearance with a few friends on campus at NYU. Back in Delaware, though, over 200 people gathered with the Malhotra family to watch the event at a screening party — even a few VIPs.
Watch out for Mohan. He blew away the competition in the first round with a huge win to secure his advancement to the quarterfinals.
“I think he did an amazing job,” his father Arun Malhotra told the News Journal. “Truly amazed at today’s performance.”

The win was even more impressive considering the freshman was up against two college seniors, and defeated them both with a substantial $6,000 lead over the runner up.
Make sure to catch Malhotra on Feb. 22 when he moves on to the quarterfinals.
