Here’s what this smart-city pioneer reads every single week

We caught up with University of Delaware policy scientist Troy Mix. Here's his reading list.

We ask local tech leaders for their reading list. Check ’em out here.

Earlier this week, we caught up with Troy Mix, policy scientist with the University of Delaware. Mix is working on all sorts of stuff, from city planning to broadband initiatives and even the future of Delaware and the world of “smart cities.”
We’ve covered Mix’s work as it relates to broadband before here on Technical.ly. His projects remain just as fascinating.
While we build stories about what else Mix is working on today, we decided to ask him what he’s been reading lately. We actually got two answers.
The planning and development expert pointed us toward Happy Anyway: A Flint Anthology from Belt Publishing. The book is a collection of essays and narratives from people in the town of Flint, Mich., covering the good times and bad as Flint went from industrial boom to a city in the midst of a health crisis.
Mix also told us that he reads Sidewalk Weekly, a newsletter curated by Google’s parent company, Alphabet. This weekly newsletter collects publications that relate to the potential future of connected smart cities.
Delaware, by the way, is beautifully positioned to host not only smart cities, but a smart region. Mix talked to us about that, too, but we’ll dive into that in the days to come. Keep an eye out for it.
