In a guest column for the News Journal, State Sen. Bryan Townsend (D-Newark) discussed why adopting greater transparency and accountability in government economic programs will lead to a more robust community of small and medium-sized businesses.
How?
“Over time transparency and accountability can encourage a higher percentage of successful [Delaware Economic Development Office] grants and loans, which means more business growth and stronger jobs and wages for Delawareans,” Townsend wrote.
This would all happen via Senate Bill 112, which would create transparency by requiring “five-year economic development strategies and annual assessment reports” as well as require DEDO to “engage the Delaware public to receive input into the development of these strategies and reports.”
