We all love a good drone video. But at least one man is using his quadcopter to provide the public with more than just aesthetic bewilderment.
University of Delaware researcher and associate professor of oceanography Arthur Trembanis has been shooting video of damaged coastal areas to collect and assess storm-damage data.
As the News Journal reports, Trembanis recently returned from the Adriatic coast outside Ferrara, Italy, where he used his quadcopter/GoPro setup to get an aerial view of the erosion that decimated the area after a superstorm hit the shore in February.
By plugging the video into PhotoScan software, Trembanis was able to create a 3D model of the eroded beach, mapping areas of severely reshaped shoreline.
