Executive order could bring body cameras to Wilmington police

Last Friday, Wilmington Mayor Dennis Williams signed an executive order commissioning a study of body-camera use in law enforcement.
Overseen by Wilmington police chief Bobby Cummings, the forthcoming study will analyze efficient body cam strategies.
“I’ve been monitoring things since Ferguson and Baltimore and we had a slight incident in Dover, and we want to be open we don’t want the community to distrust the police,” Williams said on Friday. “We have to be part of the community and not part of the problem, and to be part of the success of the community, as well with the police department.”

Inspired by this Police Foundation report on the efficacy of body cams in 2012, Williams said he hopes the results of this study will bear similar results.
