Virginia Tech’s Academy of Data Science and the Northern Virginia Technology Council are dropping a series of lectures on data science in the modern era with events continuing throughout the year. The events hope to unbox real-world uses for data science in conducting business, shaping policy and the overall influence on the way we live

“We have mounds of data, that is not the issue,” Tom Woteki, founding director of the Academy of Data Science, said in a statement. “What we need to do is develop a pipeline of talented data scientists who can leverage methods to better understand what drives government, commercial, academic and societal issues. If we can analyze the information we already have, we could dramatically improve peoples’ lives.”

View the first event here and catch the next one live on Tuesday, May 25 from 1-2 p.m. It features Taka Ariga, chief data scientist at the Government Accountability Office.
