How DC Tech Meetup is dealing with the MLK Library closing

“For the first time in 2 years we are working with some new amazing venues,” wrote organizer Christopher Breene. March's event is being held at the Howard Theater.

For a while there things weren’t looking so good. Prompted by the closing of the MLK Library downtown (for three years!), DC Tech Meetup was on the hunt for a new home.

And it couldn’t be just any space — as #dctech’s largest monthly event, DC Tech Meetup needs space for hundreds and A/V capacity in a central (or at least easily accessible) location. What’s an organizer to do?

After searching around for a while, March’s lead organizer, Christopher Breene, announced that the group is moving on up — “for the first time in 2 years we are working with some new amazing venues,” Breene wrote in an email. “We are working with a few local partners to host our meetup at some of the top venues in D.C.”

This month that means the historic Howard Theater in Shaw.

Breene’s excited, he told Technical.ly, to take the very same stage as Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald and so many others. It all goes down March 28.
