There should be more women angel investors: Learn how at this event

Only around 26 percent of angel investors are women. This event at the University of Maryland's Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship wants to change that.

Women are underrepresented at all levels of the investing game. Here at Technical.ly we focus a lot of how little venture funding goes to female founders (just 3 percent by some counts) but there’s another issue that may or may not be related — women (statistically) aren’t the people making those decisions about who to invest in, either.

A recent study from the Mass Ave.-based National Venture Capital Association showed that “few” women are in decision-making positions at Venture Capital firms. The gap exists in angel investing too — where just 26 percent of investors are women.

This is the number an upcoming event at the University of Maryland’s Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship wants to address.

The center is hosting a free workshop aimed at teaching female would-be angels “what it takes to become a savvy startup investor.” The afternoon-long event on March 10 is open to all, regardless of UMd affiliation.
