Peter Cherukuri, the erstwhile president of Politico Focus, is taking a new job as president and CIO of 15th Street-based incubator 1776. The Huffington Post first reported the news on Sunday.
“We’re thrilled to have Peter joining our team this fall,” 1776 cofounder and co-CEO Donna Harris told HuffPo. “Given his experiences at the forefront of new media and in all he’s achieved in the political information industry, he’s uniquely qualified to build our intelligence and insights platform and help lead our team.”
1776 has made a string of executive-level hires over the past few months. The incubator hired former CNN journalist Erin McPike to run communications in March, and added Margaret Shepard, from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, as managing director in May. Steady expansion news has accompanied these hires as well — like 1776’s announcement of a new international campus in Dubai in April and a New York campus in June.
