In just two weeks, 50 Mexican university students with entrepreneurial ambitions will descend on Georgetown University and, they hope, the larger #dctech scene. They’ll be a part of TrepCamp, an “advanced entrepreneurial training program” that takes place in 10 tech hubs around the U.S. each summer.
TrepCamp was originally launched as a partner initiative between the Mexico-US Entrepreneurship and Innovation Council (MUSEIC) and the Bilateral Forum on Higher Education, Innovation and Research (FOBESII). The program takes high-potential students from top universities in Mexico and brings them together for three weeks of training, lectures and mentorship. The goal? To give these would-be entrepreneurs a boost, and ultimately strengthen both countries’ innovation ecosystems.
The D.C. edition of the camp is in its third year, and organizer Beatriz Aguirre told Technical.ly she’s looking for mentors and speakers to help out. Have wisdom to share, things to say about tech trends or the proverbial entrepreneurial journey? Consider giving some time.
Aguirre told Technical.ly the ideal mentor or speaker is an individual who is immersed in the #dctech ecosystem, willing to share their knowledge and, especially in the case of mentors, willing to give the time necessary to help an ambitious student develop their idea. Sound like you or someone you know? (Full disclosure: This reporter will be giving a general talk on the #dctech scene.)
TrepCamp will take place June 13-30. Contact the organizers (and ask for Aguirre) if you’re interested in getting involved.
