Jed Schmidt steps down as BrooklynJS organizer

Jed Schmidt, the popular and silky-voiced cofounder and emcee of dev meetup BrooklynJS announced Sunday on Twitter that he’d be stepping down as the leader of the group, and that Will Duffy and Mariko Kosaka would be taking over.

BrooklynJS has been held monthly in the upstairs room at the bar 61 Local in Boerum Hill. The events are fun and fit more enthusiastic people than you would think possible into the space.
Typically there are a few sponsors and then four or five presentations on what people in the community are working on in JavaScript. Side projects abound, and the space gives people a chance to talk about their work with other people who will actually understand what they’re talking about.

The new leaders of the group, Kosaka and Duffy, are veteran BrooklynJS members.
The $15 entrance fee and the sponsorship money for the event has been donated each month to ScriptEd and Girls Who Code, raising about $1,000 per month. You can see a full, transparent accounting of the group’s revenue, expenses and donations on GitHub. The ticket sales also show the growth in the meetup over time, from under $1,000 in its first few months to over $3,000 recently.
