Recap: Technical.ly's first Brooklyn Super Meetup

Last Thursday, Technical.ly imported one of its tech scene innovations to Brooklyn: the Super Meetup.

The idea of the Super Meetup is simple: meetups are integral to any tech scene. Every now and then, it makes sense to rally the leaders of tech-related meetups in town and gather for one big mixer. The idea is to connect people with groups they may not have otherwise known about.

It’s not the kind of thing you can do every month, but do it every now and then and it has a certain magic.

The idea has visited Baltimore and Philadelphia, but the first Brooklyn Super Meetup took place Oct. 9. It was great.

So that’s what we did last week, at the offices of Huge. The space might have been even more full than when David Rees visited. The event was sponsored by Kickstarter, Huge and Small Planet.

Then, after welcomes from Huge, Kickstarter, Small Planet and Technical.ly, each of the meetups and coworking spaces that attended the event got 30 seconds to pitch their group to the room.

Afterward, Zack Seward, Technical.ly’s editor-in-chief, did an interview with Andy Saldana, one of the organizers of the NY Tech Meetup, the giant of New York meetups — and maybe one of the largest meetups in the world (it has about 42,000 members).
