Longform releases iOS app for following writers

Longform has released a new iOS app that’s getting a good deal of buzz for a function that lets you follow writers.

If a writer has an entry in the app and you decide you like that scribe’s work, the free app will automatically download anything he or she writes so that it’s available for you to read offline.

Longform was founded in 2010 as a curator of online narrative journalism. We wrote about some of its tech-related podcasts earlier this year.

As founders Aaron Lammer and Max Linsky described on a recent podcast, the app was built so that no matter where a writer published, the app would find it and make it available to users.

Linsky told us, via email, “It was a much heavier lift than anything we’ve done before, but instead of outsourcing we decided to build it all in-house, so we could make sure it worked exactly as we wanted it to.”

Linsky says they are adding writers and publishers to the system every day.

Longform is a five-person company, based in Dumbo.
