NYU Game Center Incubator opens with 6 games

Six games that arose from the thesis projects of the school's first MFA class. But: "The Incubator is not an extension of graduate school, it’s a new context," officials said.

The NYU Game Center recently graduated its first class of MFA students. Now, it is launching an incubator, featuring six games that arose from some of those students’ thesis projects.

This pilot class of incubatees will work from within the space, planning some sort of public launch at the end of August.

Officials from the new incubator wrote:

The Incubator is not an extension of graduate school, it’s a new context where teams are given a structure to address the marketing, legal, monetization, and other business issues of launching a successful commercial game.

Each game’s launch could take the shape of a publication on an existing platform, a Kickstarter campaign, a public beta or something else.

The incubator has a long list of industry partners, including staff at companies like Kickstarter, Autodesk, Microsoft and General Assembly.

The center also recently announced the winner of a $20,000 scholarship and the appointment of Matt Parker to its faculty. Parker was the first to tell us about IndieCade East.
