The maker spirit extends throughout the Northeast Corridor, as technology begins to evolve out of the Internet and into real world products. That’s what the reporters in Technical.ly’s three cities saw as we got together for our first podcast.
In the half hour conversation, in which this reporter’s colleagues in Baltimore, Andrew Zaleski, and Philadelphia, Juliana Reyes, joined with our editor Christopher Wink, we discussed national trends we all shared, local distinctions we’ve found and the biggest stories on the East Coast.
Some national takeaways that may interest Brooklynites:
- Makers: tech scenes in all three markets are moving into hardware, maker and other hands-on tech work that seems to be in response to the explosion of software.
- Proximity matters. It’s no accident that cybersecurity is big business in Baltimore, thanks to the center of the Federal Government sitting nearby in DC. It’s just why creative agencies have such strong roots in Brooklyn and why other Manhattan-bound companies may likely follow: financial, adtech and the like.
- Staffing is a challenge everywhere. The coder shortage is getting tackled different ways around the region, but everyone is looking for solutions.
