Baltimore has a new tool to track how much water you use

The spigot of upgrades is open for Baltimore’s water billing system, with another change is coming this week.
On Friday, the city is set to launch an online portal where residents can track billing, as well as how much water they are using. It’ll allow users to track the precise amount of water being used, as well as the timing of that use. This is important because if water is being used around the clock, for example, that could indicate something is going wrong. The portal will also help people see how much water they use for activities like turning on the sprinkler.
Customers are being mailed activation codes this week, which will then enable them to create an account.
The portal follows the city’s upgrade to a smart meter system, which followed a practical shift from billing for an estimated amount to the actual amount of water used. The Baltimeter system went online earlier this fall.
