A Russell Street data center capable of providing really fast internet got 10 percent bigger this year.
Data center owner TierPoint said it added 3,000 square feet to the 30,000-square-foot facility, in addition to uninterruptible power supply capability. All this is part of a wider expansion effort, and more could be coming next year.
The center provides IT and cloud services, and houses more than a dozen providers, like Comcast, Verizon, Cogent and Zayo.
In a city where leaders have acknowledged a need for better internet options, it’s already contributing to improving fiber.
The ramp-up announcement comes after developers Caves Valley Partners said it would connect to the center to provide the fastest internet speeds in the city for its Stadium Square project, which is a few blocks away. CVP’s Arsh Mirmiran said last month that there was some luck involved in the location and available conduit, but TierPoint said it is seeing growing demand for the center’s services.
