A tricked-out Airstream will be posted in the parking lot of the Emerging Technology Centers’ Haven campus next week.
Paul Singh, the D.C.-area angel investor who founded Disruption Corporation and was a partner at 500 Startups, is out on the road for his yearlong Results Junkies Tech Tour. He’ll be in Baltimore for a stop during Baltimore Innovation Week 2016 presented by 14 West.
Speaking from his current stop (city No. 34, Knoxville, Tenn.), Singh said the tour is his approach to finding startups outside of the usual tech hubs of New York, Silicon Valley and D.C.
“Our business has changed,” he said of venture capital. “We can’t just sit back and wait for deal flow to come to us anymore.”
Along with the ability to hit spots that don’t have a major airport, the Airstream allows him to park for a week at a time and dig into what makes a community tick. It’s taken him to Bismarck, N.D., Tulsa, Okla., and Des Moines, Iowa, among other spots. There’s no guarantee that he will invest in a company in each city, but Singh said part of the purpose of the tour is to find startups to back.

“I’m finding and investing in companies that have the same caliber of people and talent as their peers on the coasts,” he said.
Like Steve Case who visited last year, Singh is from D.C. but is looking to learn more about the full shape of the Baltimore tech community. This is our chance to represent.
The tour stop kicks off with a happy hour at ETC on Monday, Sept. 26, and Singh will hold office hours throughout the week.
RSVP
He is also set to attend events like Beta City and the Baltimore Innovation Awards. Singh said he picked this time to visit because of the activity around Baltimore Innovation Week.
