New site for cleaning your criminal record: ExpungeItMD.org

Over the couple of years, the expungement process has attracted a lot of attention from civic-minded devs. Given the legal system’s paperwork-filled nature, making it easier to erase low-level criminal offenses seems like an obvious place where digital tools can help.
Then a new Maryland law that took effect in 2015 opened up more potential offenses that could be expunged.
It has led Maryland Legal Aid to work harder to spread the word about expungement, with clinics at local libraries. The nonprofit law firm is also embracing the digital side with a new app called ExpungeItMD.org.

The app, which was helmed by Program Manager & Senior Full Stack Developer Russ Bloomquist, allows legal pros to search case numbers, and has a built-in system that detects other expungable cases based on previous cases.
The app is still in the final stage of development, and Maryland Legal Aid wants feedback. The org hosted an open house on Sept. 15 at its Baltimore office (500 E. Lexington St.). They’re also set to present the app at an event held during Baltimore Innovation Week on Sept. 29.
