Here’s a social justice hackathon happening in Baltimore this weekend

Leaders are descending on Baltimore for the National Urban League’s annual conference this week, and that’s no different in the tech category.
On Aug. 5-6, the conference is hosting the TechConnect Summit to put a spotlight on the industry and how it can help further social justice. The free event is being held at the Baltimore Convention Center, where the conference is taking place.

Facebook is a partner on the conference portion of the event, which includes panel discussions and workshops on topics like access to jobs and diversity in the tech industry.
A big tech event wouldn’t be complete without sleep-deprived coders, so it’s fitting that a hackathon is also set to unfold over the two days. Teams will look to create apps around social justice, and compete for $5,000. Specific categories include public safety, voting, education, jobs, housing and health, according to organizers. Comcast NBCUniversal is a partner for the hackathon.
