SOAR Baltimore is heading to a DC incubator

The crowdfunding platform for schoolteachers was accepted to the 18-month Halcyon Incubator.

The startup behind a platform that helps teachers crowdfund for classroom needs is joining a D.C.-based social entrepreneurship accelerator.

Two members of SOAR Baltimore were selected for the latest cohort of Halcyon Incubator’s fellowship program. Founder Bobby Moore and Zeluis Teixeira will participate in the 18-month program that helps entrepreneurs. The program includes room and board in D.C., a funding stipend and connections with mentors and foundations. Moore, a former fifth-grade teacher in Baltimore, said the company will still be based here.
“SOAR will still have significant programming in Baltimore, but our long-term vision is to scale our efforts into other school districts across the country who are also experiencing a resource/opportunity gap,” Moore said. “Halcyon will give us the needed support, networking and infrastructure to prepare for significant growth and scaling.”
SOAR recently completed Johns Hopkins Social Innovation Lab. In his final pitch at that event, Moore talked about how the platform can help students, teachers and parents collaborate on a project.
