Baltimore entrepreneur Dave Troy spoke Tuesday at TEDGlobal 2014 in Rio de Janeiro about his effort to map Baltimore’s social media communities.
The Bolton Hill resident was one of 10 speakers at the morning session of TED University, according to a blog post on the organization’s website.

“Segregation is a social construct. It’s something we choose to do, and we can choose not to do it.” Onstage [Troy] unveils a brand-new map of Rio that shows the many overlapping micro-interests of this radically diverse city. “What is a city?” he asks. “I believe it’s the sum of the relationships of the people that live there.”

Troy, cofounder and CEO of 410 Labs, also spearheaded Baltimore Angels and Beehive Baltimore. The TEDGlobal conference continues through Friday.
