who’s getting funded?

BioDatomics, based in Bethesda, has raised $700,000 in equityaccording to SEC filings. The biotech startup creates bioinformatics software to give “scientists and researchers an analysis toolkit containing over 400 tools that can analyze data from the most advanced NGS research programs.” This is biotech meets data analytics.
CrowdTangle, based in Butcher’s Hill, has raised $2.173 million in equity, according to SEC filings. The startup, which creates a social media tool to help people find online content, is still in private beta. But CrowdTangle is hiring.

who’s making moves?

A team at Towson University has received a patent for an audio CAPTCHA intended to make it easier for people with little to no eyesight to overcome the security feature found on many websites.
PrintLess Plans, the Highlandtown-based startup that creates a rugged, foldable “e-portfolio” for architects and construction managers to haul around on job sites instead of reams of furled up blueprints, is one of 128 companies selected from more than 1,600 applicants to advance to the final round of the MassChallenge, a Boston-based program that bills itself as “the world’s largest accelerator program and startup competition.” PrintLess Plans is a graduate of the 2013 class of AccelerateBaltimore and is based out of the Emerging Technology Center.
Edtech startup An Estuary, which creates a mobile software platform for teachers’ professional development — and for teachers to share pedagogical and coursework lessons — is now creating “open badges” for Edcamp unconferences around the U.S.
Finalists in the 2014 Maryland Incubator Company of the Year awards have been announced. Among them are Rehabtics, based at the Emerging Technology Center, Citelighter, based at Betamore, and Ntsensify, a 2014 AccelerateBaltimore startup. See all 22 finalists here.
Hazoo is a relatively new startup still in beta from two University of Baltimore alumni. It’s a social marketplace where people can buy, sell or trade cars, housing and a variety of small items such as electronics and furniture.
