Rockville-based biotech company looks to expand to Baltimore city

Rockville-based biotech company Emergent BioSolutions purchased a manufacturing facility on East Lombard Street in Baltimore city in 2009. Now it wants to purchased the eight acres of city-owned property next to its East Baltimore facility to expand operations.

The Baltimore Sun reports:

Emergent BioSolutions wants to exercise an option to buy 8 acres next to its East Baltimore manufacturing facility for an expansion that eventually could add up to 100 jobs, a company official said. … Emergent expects to spend between $40 million and $120 million over the next decade on the campus, [chief financial officer Bob] Kramer said.

Baltimore City Council is scheduled to consider the sale of the city-owned land in a vote today.
