326 people have enrolled for healthcare via Maryland Health Connection

Maryland Health Connection, the state’s virtual health insurance marketplace for purchasing health insurance plans via Affordable Care Act implementation, has enrolled 326 people in new healthcare plans as of Oct. 6, according to a report from the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange released on Oct. 7. (The exchange oversees Maryland Health Connection.) Maryland Health Connection went live Oct. 1.
In 2009, Families USA projected that 1.4 million Maryland residents are without health insurance. The Maryland Health Care Commission has a breakdown of uninsured people, by percentage, according to county, but more recent numbers are unavailable, as the U.S. Census website is not working due to the government shutdown.
The report also said that 13,532 accounts “with verified identity” have been created as of Oct. 6.
Technical difficulties including error messages and frozen screens have made Maryland Health Connection sluggish for users. In the report, the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange said it is “in the process of addressing technical issues on the website to improve the application and enhance users’ experience.”
