The Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development has crunched some of the numbers released in two new U.S. Census reports about STEM workers nationwide and in the Maryland-Washington, D.C., area. Read the full report here. We’ve collected some highlights below:
- The metro area of “Washington, D.C-Arlington-Alexandria, including portions of the District, Virginia, Maryland and West Virginia, has a STEM workforce of about 330,000 workers.”
- The Baltimore-Towson area has a STEM workforce of roughly 110,000 people.
- “The Baltimore region, with a STEM workforce at 10 percent of the total area workforce, is the 6th largest concentration of STEM workers.”
- Software developer is the most common STEM occupation in the U.S.
