Baltimore-Towson STEM workforce about 110K people strong

The Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development has crunched some of the numbers released in two new U.S. Census reports about STEM workers nationwide and in the Maryland-Washington, D.C., area. Read the full report here. We’ve collected some highlights below:

• The metro area of “Washington, D.C-Arlington-Alexandria, including portions of the District, Virginia, Maryland and West Virginia, has a STEM workforce of about 330,000 workers.”
• The Baltimore-Towson area has a STEM workforce of roughly 110,000 people.
• “The Baltimore region, with a STEM workforce at 10 percent of the total area workforce, is the 6th largest concentration of STEM workers.”
• Software developer is the most common STEM occupation in the U.S.
