A series of advertisements on Lyft‘s Facebook page, like the one above, has prompted inquiries by some members of the Baltimore Tech Facebook group into whether the San Francisco-based ridesharing service is coming to Baltimore.
The answer: no.
One of Lyft’s spokespersons told Technically Baltimore by e-mail that the startup is “currently testing national social media ads that are running in Baltimore,” but doesn’t have plans to launch the service in Baltimore at this time.
While similar to car-chauffeuring startup Uber, Lyft enlists its drivers from the pool of residents in cities where it launches. Lyft riders summon vehicles via smartphone app, and then identify their ride by the big, fuzzy mustaches affixed to the vehicle’s front bumper.
