The City of Baltimore’s population increased by more than 1,000 people between July 2011 to July 2012, as Technically Baltimore reported, the first time since 1950 such Census data has shown a net gain.
Now that we’ve all celebrated, let’s consider to where people moving from Baltimore city go.


Survey says: Baltimore County. The Census Flows Mapper tool compiles and plots county-to-county population migration taken from American Community Survey data collected from 2006 to 2010. The findings:

  • 18,603 people moved out of Baltimore city and into Baltimore County
  • 10,092 people moved into Baltimore city and out of Baltimore County
  • Over four years, Baltimore city’s net population loss to Baltimore County: 8,511
