Downtown Baltimore education-technology startup 1sqbox expects to close a second round of angel financing worth $5 million by middle 2013. The second round comes after an initial round worth $330,000, according to BmoreMedia.
The product 1sqbox sells is proprietary, classroom-management software for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. The software runs on Android-equipped tablets the startup also sells to schools.

Last year, 1sqbox launched a pilot program in City Springs Middle School, a charter school in East Baltimore. The Abell Foundation funded the purchase of 100 tablets. Templeton says the tablets average $349 each, depending on amount ordered. [more]

At present, 1sqbox has contracts with two schools in Tennessee and four schools in Baltimore, including Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women, which played host to December’s VEXmas Classic robotics competition.
